2005 DSEi Arms Fair Week of Action

This year held again at the London Docklands Excel Centre with 1,100 exhibitors, 70 military delegations and 20,000 approved visitors,
this is one of the world's largest arms fairs.
Amongst other dodgy buyers, it is attended by 7 regimes on the Foreign Office's list of human rights abusers as well as countries at war (e.g. in 2003, 5 of the 7 governments fighting in the Congo), countries in breach of UN resolutions (e.g. Israel), states suppressing minorities (e.g. Indonesia), countries in dangerous dispute with each other(e.g. India & Pakistan) and many poor countries who have more important priorities like education, clean water and safe sanitation.

Protests took many forms: a vigil, music protest, a march and blockade of Excel, a Critical Mass bike ride from the city to Excel, roads blocked, trains stopped and a Critical Mass bike ride and mass protest and closure of Park Lane outside the Dorchester Hotel where 500 weapons buyers and sellers were heckled as they arrived for their lavish Dinner.

DSEi 2009 Protests: Day of Action in the City

rather than just protest in Docklands at the Arms Fair, this year protests took place all over London targetting the arms dealers, the arms companies, the investors, the financiers and the Government.
On the Tuesday there was a day of action in the City, heart of the banks and investment companies that bankroll the Arms Trade

My favourite cycle home from work

I work in Earby & I live in Trawden,
a ride of 8 miles. On this route I see lots of sky,
beautiful countryside and hardly any cars
- a great way to travel home

[note - I retired in December 2005
but it's still a great leisure route]
