Mum and Roger went and Mum proudly wrote down her memories of the day. She coul;dn't resist this thought though, 'There was a white marble staircase lined each side with Life Guards. They did not bat an eye. It made me think of the little boy who stuck a pin in one to see if he was real.' 
I think Dad's welfare work probably helped develop my social conscience though I ended with very different views becoming strongly opposed to war, weapons and militarism at a fairly young age.
