My dad was a plumber and during World War II that was a reserved occupation so he wasn't called up. So during most of the war he also served in the Rescue Service, getting people out of collapsed buildings, sorting out damaged services. After about 4 years of war, he got sick of the Blitz and wanted to have a go back at the Germans. So he signed up. And sod's law, he got sent to fight the Japanese in Burma! And these are some photos he took.
