I've been on a several Critical Mass bike rides to the Arms Fair at Excel in London Docklands, but this is the first of the regular monthly ones I've been on. Here, halfway through the ride, hundreds of cyclists are having a break in Smithfields Market

First we assembled on the South Bank under Waterloo Bridge - it seems the assembly time of 6pm is flexible in that it doesn't usually set off until 7pm!

outriders go ahead and stop in front of vehicles preventing those on side roads from cutting in thus making it very safe while the 'Critical Mass' stops traffic behind from passing - for once the car can't bully us! *

a bit of a conflab at the roundabout - it gradually dawned on the police concerned it would cause less congestion if they just let us go on our way!
