The Highland Clearances was one of the many shameful events in British history (alas there are so many). Whilst cycling around the north west highlands, Ross, Cromarty, Caithness and Sutherland I saw the physical remains of hundreds of former crofts as well as more modern reminders such as this statue 'The Emigrants' and the school children's story in the Strathnaver Museum. *
